It's funny how journeys can take you to unexpected places.
When I started Pakawow I knew I was following in the craft of my mother, sewing and creating beautiful garments and felt greatly appreciative of the skills she had passed on to me. I would sew clothes, hats and dresses. I didn't realize then that in the same journey I would find myself revisiting the skills of my father as well, but unexpectedly that is where this road has led.
My father made silver jewelry. Some of my earliest memories involve me sitting on the wooden step in the doorway of his jewelry workshop watching him work with his hands creating amazing rings, necklaces and other jewelry.
And I credit this upbringing with my love of jewelry, and my love of creating it as well.
So when I asked myself what the next step for Pakawow was as we came up to the end of last year, and I realized it was jewelry, I realized that this whole start my own business thing has taken me on a journey of exploring my beginnings, in understanding the crafts better of the people I came from. Slowly but surely allowing me to understand them a little more, even the ones who are long gone.
As the foundation of something new I can't think of anything better.
So onward we go,
I cannot wait to see where this journey leads to next...
